Privacy Policy
Last updated 21 August 2026StudyIELTS ("StudyIELTS", "we", "us", "our") operates studyielts.com and the services available through it. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and share it, and the choices you have.
If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the site.
1. Who this policy covers
This policy applies to everyone who uses studyielts.com — whether you browse without an account, register as a learner, attend a live class, buy a course, or contact us through a form on the site.
It does not cover third-party websites or services we link to. Those have their own policies, and we encourage you to read them.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — your name, email address, password, and, if you choose to provide them, your phone number, country, timezone, date of birth, gender, and target band scores.
- Social sign-in details — if you sign in with Google, Facebook, or another supported provider, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from that provider. We do not receive or store your password for that account, and we do not post anything to your social accounts.
- Practice and study data — the tests you take, your answers, your scores and band estimates, your progress through courses, your favourites, and any ratings you leave.
- Purchase details — what you bought, when, and the amount. Payments are processed by third-party payment providers; we do not collect or store full card numbers.
- Communications — messages you send us through contact forms, email, chat, or support requests, including anything you choose to include in them.
- Class participation — attendance in live lessons, questions asked, and any work submitted for feedback.
Information we collect automatically
- Usage data — pages viewed, features used, time spent, and links clicked.
- Device and technical data — IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device type, language, and approximate location derived from your IP address.
- Cookies and similar technologies — see section 6.
Information from others
- Social sign-in providers, as described above.
- Payment providers, who confirm to us whether a payment succeeded or failed.
- Referrals — if another learner refers you, we record the connection so referral credit can be applied to both accounts.
3. How we use your information
We use personal information to:
- create and maintain your account, and keep you signed in;
- deliver the services you ask for — practice tests, AI-generated band estimates, courses, live classes, and study materials;
- store your results and progress so you can review them over time;
- process purchases, apply wallet credit and referral credit, and issue refunds where applicable;
- personalise what we show you, such as recommended courses or tests;
- respond to your enquiries and provide support;
- send you service messages about your account, purchases, or classes;
- send you marketing about our services where you have agreed to receive it, or where we are otherwise permitted to;
- monitor, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the site;
- detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and misuse; and
- comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
AI processing
Some practice tests are scored by automated systems. Your written and spoken responses are processed to generate an estimated band score and feedback. These estimates are indicative study tools produced by software — they are not official IELTS results and carry no standing with any test provider, university, or immigration authority.
4. Our grounds for processing
Depending on the information and the purpose, we rely on one or more of the following:
- Performance of a contract — to provide the services you have signed up for.
- Consent — for marketing messages, non-essential cookies, and any optional information you choose to share. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests — to secure the site, prevent abuse, understand how our services are used, and improve them, provided your rights do not override those interests.
- Legal obligation — where we are required to keep or disclose information.
5. When we share information
We do not sell your personal information.
We share it only in these circumstances:
- Service providers who work on our behalf — hosting, email delivery, analytics, payment processing, customer support, and live-class platforms. They may only use the information to provide services to us.
- Instructors and tutors, where you attend their class or submit work for their feedback. They see what is necessary to teach and assess you.
- Partner institutions, only where you have asked us to share your details with them, or have otherwise agreed to it.
- Test booking, where you use the site to register for an examination and your details must be passed to the relevant booking provider to complete it.
- Legal and safety reasons — where we believe disclosure is required by law, or is reasonably necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of StudyIELTS, our users, or others.
- Business transfers — if our business or part of it is sold, merged, or reorganised, information may transfer as part of that transaction. We will tell you if this materially changes how your information is handled.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, understand how the site is used, and — where you agree — measure and improve marketing.
Cookies fall into three broad groups on our site:
- Essential — required for the site to work, including sign-in and security. These cannot be switched off.
- Functional — remember choices such as language, currency, favourites, and filters.
- Analytics and marketing — help us understand usage and measure campaigns. These are only set where permitted.
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings. Blocking essential cookies will prevent parts of the site from working, including signing in.
Some information is also stored locally in your browser — for example, saved test progress and favourites — so that it survives a page reload. You can clear this through your browser's settings.
7. How long we keep information
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active, and afterwards only for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy.
In practice this means:
- Account and profile data — kept while your account is open, and deleted on request or after a period of prolonged inactivity.
- Test results and study history — kept while your account is open, so you can track your progress.
- Purchase and transaction records — kept for as long as required for accounting, tax, and dispute-resolution purposes, even after an account is closed.
- Support correspondence — kept for a reasonable period after the matter is resolved.
- Anonymised or aggregated data — which can no longer identify you, may be kept indefinitely.
8. Your rights and choices
Subject to applicable law, you may:
- access the personal information we hold about you;
- correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
-
delete your account and associated personal information — see our Data Deletion Instructions;
-
object to or restrict certain processing;
- receive a copy of information you provided to us, in a portable format;
- withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent; and
- opt out of marketing at any time, using the unsubscribe link in any marketing email or by contacting us.
Much of this you can do yourself from your account settings. For anything else, contact us using the details in section 13. We will respond within a reasonable period and may need to verify your identity first.
If you believe we have not handled your information properly, please contact us so we can put it right. You may also have the right to complain to a data protection authority in your country.
9. Security
We use technical and organisational measures to protect personal information — including encrypted connections, access controls, and restricting staff access to what is necessary for their role.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please choose a strong, unique password, do not share it, and tell us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
10. International transfers
We operate internationally, and our service providers may be located in countries other than your own. Where information is transferred across borders, we take steps to ensure it remains protected to a standard consistent with this policy.
11. Children and young learners
Our services are intended for people aged 16 and over.
If you are under 16, you may only use the site with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian, who is responsible for your use of it. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below the age at which consent is required in their country without that consent.
If you believe a child has provided us with personal information without appropriate consent, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. If the changes are significant, we will provide a more prominent notice — for example, by email or a notice on the site.
Continuing to use the site after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
