Model Band-7 Answer:

Advertising, in its essence, is the art of showcasing a product to potential consumers. When companies or individuals advertise a product, they highlight its unique features and the benefits it offers to the consumer. Since the advent of consumer markets, advertising has been utilized by merchants to promote their products and expand their consumer base. I strongly disagree with the notion that advertising compels people to purchase unnecessary items. In my opinion, advertising is a vital tool in the market mechanism that can benefit both consumers and merchants in various ways, such as raising awareness, fostering competition, discouraging monopolies, and contributing to the overall economy.

Advertising has played a significant role in spreading accurate information and making consumers aware of the available options in the market. It drives competition among businesses, which ultimately benefits customers by providing them with a wider range of choices. For instance, when “Colgate” was introduced as the first toothpaste in the market, consumers had no other option until competing brands like “Close-up” began advertising their products. This competition led to a decrease in prices. Therefore, advertising plays a crucial role in engaging consumers and ensuring they receive the best value for their money. While consumers are the ultimate target and beneficiaries of any product, they also possess the ability to make informed decisions regarding their purchases. It is inappropriate to solely blame advertising for increased consumer spending. To address unnecessary spending, both individuals and the government must work together. Individuals need to be mindful of their expenses and manage their finances wisely, while the government can regulate and monitor the content of advertisements. Thus, responsible and effective advertising can greatly benefit a nation and its population by harnessing the advantages of advertising.

In conclusion, despite a few drawbacks, advertising can be utilized as a tool to enhance economic growth by stimulating spending, introducing suitable products to consumers, and fostering competition. Even the government can employ smart advertising strategies to promote financial literacy and encourage responsible spending. Overall, I advocate for healthier advertising practices that benefit consumers, merchants, and ultimately the global economy.
