When attempting IELTS Writing Task 2, there are several important aspects to consider, as your writing skills will be evaluated based on grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, and task response. Keeping these factors in mind, you need to craft your response appropriately. Let’s now try the following essay question.

Question:

Some individuals believe that children should receive formal training at school on how to be good parents in the future. Do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Sample Answer:

There is a divided opinion on whether school students should be formally trained to become competent parents in the future. While some people advocate for such training, I disagree with this notion, as I believe children are too young and immature to handle parenting responsibilities.

To begin with, proponents of teaching parenting skills in schools argue that parents who lack proper training may struggle with effective child-rearing. For instance, some parents allow their children to consume unhealthy fast food regularly, leading to issues like obesity. By educating children about such matters early on, they could potentially make better choices when they become parents themselves.

However, I contend that children are in the stage of development where they require parenting rather than being trained for it. Expecting them to learn parenting skills at a young age is unrealistic, as they are still in the process of learning and growing themselves. It would be more practical and beneficial to provide parenting education to adults when they are about to become parents. This could be achieved through short training programs that equip future parents with the knowledge and understanding needed to raise their children effectively.

In conclusion, I believe it is not appropriate to burden children with learning how to be good parents. Instead, parenting education should be targeted at adults who are about to embark on parenthood. By doing so, they can be better prepared to face the challenges and responsibilities that come with raising children.
