Let’s look at an IELTS speaking cue card topic that recently appeared in the exam.
**IELTS Speaking Cue Card**
Describe a short journey you often make that you don’t like. Please say:
– Where do you go?
– How often do you do it?
– Why don’t you like it?
**Sample Answer: **
There’s a short journey that I often have to make to my workplace. I work in a company located in the industrial area of my city, and my daily commute involves traveling to that place. I have to do this journey five days a week, as I work from Monday to Friday.
The reason I don’t like this journey is because of the heavy traffic and the long hours I spend on the road. The industrial area is quite far from my home, and during rush hours, the roads get congested with vehicles, making the commute extremely time-consuming. It’s frustrating to be stuck in traffic for hours every day, and it leaves me feeling exhausted and drained even before I start my workday.
Moreover, the pollution in that area is quite high due to the presence of numerous factories and industries. The air quality is poor, and I often have to wear a mask to protect myself from the dust and pollutants in the atmosphere. This adds to my discomfort and dislike for the journey.
Additionally, the lack of proper public transportation options to that area makes the commute even more inconvenient. I have to rely on my car or a taxi, which increases my expenses and adds to the stress of driving in heavy traffic.
All in all, this short journey to my workplace is something I dread every day due to the traffic congestion, pollution, and lack of convenient transportation options. I wish there were better alternatives for commuting to the industrial area, which would make the journey more pleasant and less tiring.
