Recent Exam Question-  Speaking Prompt (16th June 2017)

Exam Question:-Speaking prompt

Describe a situation when a known person solved a problem sensibly.
When it was?
Who it was?
What was the problem and how he solved it?
Do you think you often act sensibly?

In a world where timely and sensible actions can prevent or mitigate problems, I recall a recent incident shared by a close friend that exemplifies quick thinking and rational decision-making. This incident left a lasting impression on me as it showcased how sensibility can save the day in challenging situations.

It was just a few weeks ago when my friend found herself in a distressing situation. Her young toddler accidentally got locked inside the bathroom and was unable to open the latch from the inside. Understandably, panic ensued, but my friend managed to remain calm and focused on finding a solution.

She tried to open the door from the outside, but it seemed impossible. Recognizing that waiting for help to arrive might take longer, she decided to take matters into her own hands. She swiftly called her husband and a locksmith, but she knew they wouldn’t be able to reach home immediately. Undeterred, she assessed the situation and came up with a sensible plan.

Realizing that the latch was newly installed and not pierced, she grabbed a screwdriver from her toolbox. With a steady hand and quick thinking, she carefully pierced the latch, allowing her to use the key to unlock the door. In a matter of minutes, she successfully freed her child from the confined space, averting potential harm and distress.

Reflecting on the gravity of the situation, I shudder to think about what could have happened if she hadn’t acted sensibly. The child could have been hurt or experienced severe emotional trauma. Her sensible decision to take immediate action undoubtedly made all the difference.

This incident reinforced my belief that remaining composed and applying common sense in challenging situations can lead to effective problem-solving. As an adult, I strive to think logically and act sensibly whenever confronted with difficulties. I firmly believe that rationality and quick thinking are powerful tools that can help us navigate through life’s hurdles with greater ease and success.

In conclusion, the incident involving my friend’s prompt and sensible actions in freeing her trapped toddler from the bathroom serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of acting rationally in times of crisis. Sensible decisions can not only prevent problems from escalating but also lead to positive outcomes in challenging circumstances. As an individual, I aspire to adopt the same approach, relying on logical thinking to tackle obstacles and find solutions.
