Recently, a student who appeared in the IELTS Speaking Exam shared the following questions and answers:

**Question 1: How do the newspapers market themselves to increase sales?**

Newspapers employ various strategies to enhance their marketing. They advertise on television and display banners on hoardings. Additionally, they promote themselves on websites and utilize catchy slogans to attract a larger audience. Newly established newspapers offer discounts to entice the public into purchasing newspaper packages, while well-established ones retain customers through various plans and offers.

**Question 2: What kind of marketing practices do these newspapers use?**

One effective practice is door-to-door selling by sales teams. This approach works well for newly launched newspapers. Amar Ujala and Dainik Bhaskar used this method when they started and have now become popular newspapers nationwide. Another successful strategy is offering gifts with monthly subscriptions to attract more readers. They often provide utensils and appliances as incentives.

**Question 3: Do you think newspapers manipulate real stories to increase their sales?**

Yes, it is possible that some newspapers alter real stories to make them more appealing. Local newspapers might even publish fake stories. For instance, editors might spread rumors about celebrities to boost sales, and later, when celebrities are asked, they deny such stories. These false news or rumors are prevalent these days solely for the sake of publicity.

**Question 4: Do TV programs and radio channels talk about the same news?**

Yes, TV news channels and radio channels broadcast the same news, but the difference lies in the depth of coverage. TV provides more in-depth information, often accompanied by videos or visuals. Sometimes, TV reporters present news live from the location of the incident. On the other hand, radio channels provide news in a less detailed manner.

**Question 5: Do you think people will use the internet to read news online?**

Undoubtedly, people will increasingly prefer reading news online, especially through mobile applications. The internet is already widely used for checking weather updates, news, and watching talk shows online on computers or mobiles. This trend is likely to continue in the future.

**Question 6: What are the advantages and disadvantages of using the internet?**

The internet offers numerous advantages, such as easy access to information on various subjects, seamless connectivity among people, and the convenience of accessing news from anywhere at any time. Online shopping eliminates the need to visit physical stores, and students can study from the comfort of their homes. However, there are also disadvantages, including the involvement of internet hackers in fraudulent activities and cybercrimes that are challenging to trace.
