Band 7 Essay Sample:
The involvement of employees in the decision-making process is a prevalent practice in many organizations today. While some argue that decisions should be solely made by managers, others believe that employees should have a say in the process. This essay will examine both perspectives before presenting my own opinion.
On one hand, managers possess extensive experience and knowledge about the company’s operations. They are familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of the employees, enabling them to make informed decisions that benefit the company, stakeholders, and employees. Moreover, certain confidential information is considered during crucial decision-making, and involving all employees can compromise security and confidentiality.
On the other hand, there are compelling reasons to include employees in the decision-making process. When employees feel valued and engaged in the decision-making process, it boosts their confidence and commitment to their roles. This, in turn, enhances employee retention rates. Research indicates that involving employees in important decisions reduces turnover. Furthermore, employees who participate in decision-making can provide valuable insights and suggestions, helping to avoid erroneous decisions that may negatively impact their work. Additionally, fostering transparency in the workplace cultivates a stronger bond between employees and their managers.
In conclusion, there are valid arguments for involving employees in the decision-making process. Although not all confidential information needs to be shared, employees should be allowed to participate in decisions that directly affect them. By doing so, organizations can benefit from the diverse perspectives and ideas of their employees, leading to improved employee satisfaction and organizational outcomes.
