Recent Exam Question in IELTS Speaking Part 2 (Short Journey you Don’t Like)
Let’s explore an IELTS speaking cue card topic that recently appeared in the exam.
IELTS Speaking Cue Card:
Describe a regular journey you take that you don’t enjoy. Please say:
Where do you go?
How often do you make this journey?
Why don’t you like it?
Sample Answer:
There is a daily commute I have to make to my workplace, and I must say, I don’t particularly enjoy it. The journey is from my home to my office, which is located in the heart of the city.
I have to make this journey five days a week, Monday to Friday, as it’s my regular route to work. The distance isn’t too far, but due to the heavy traffic in the city, it takes me quite a significant amount of time each day. On average, it takes around one and a half hours each way, making it three hours in total just for commuting.
The main reason I don’t like this journey is the constant traffic congestion. The roads are always crowded with vehicles, especially during peak hours, and it becomes extremely frustrating to be stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic. This not only wastes a lot of time but also adds to the stress levels before and after work.
Moreover, the pollution in the city is another factor that makes this journey unpleasant. The air quality is often poor due to vehicle emissions, and it takes a toll on my health and overall well-being. Breathing in polluted air during the commute leaves me feeling tired and drained even before reaching the office.
Despite my dislike for this journey, I try to make the best of it by listening to music, audiobooks, or podcasts during the ride. This helps me distract myself from the traffic and makes the journey a bit more bearable.
In conclusion, my daily commute to the office is a journey I don’t enjoy primarily because of the heavy traffic and pollution. However, I have learned to cope with it by finding ways to make the most of my time during the commute.
