Question:
Some people think that teaching methodology in the modern classroom should be based on experiential learning. While others believe that traditional approach is still the best.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with the opinion?
 Band 7 Model Answer:
The belief that Learner-Centered teaching is superior to conventional teaching methods in contemporary classrooms is widely held by many. I strongly share this view and firmly believe that experiential learning is the most essential approach for today’s educational needs.
Traditional teaching methods have typically focused on lecture-style delivery and examinations. In contrast, experiential learning emphasizes hands-on problem-solving activities and research projects. The well-known learning curve, which describes the relationship between memory and time, demonstrates that during a lecture, the retention rate starts high but rapidly declines over the course of thirty days. This phenomenon is even more relevant in today’s era of reduced attention spans and diminished learning.
Without a doubt, the learner-centered approach effectively addresses this issue. In my opinion, it represents the future of learning and teaching methodologies. Firstly, it enhances the learning process by emphasizing “learning by doing” rather than mere repetition. This approach fosters critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. It also bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, as students gain firsthand experiences that aid in the retention of concepts.
In conclusion, experiential learning facilitates personalized study through effective assessment, teaching, and learning strategies. It extends learning beyond the confines of the classroom, allowing students to progress at their own pace and cater to their specific needs. By facing real-life situations and making mistakes, learners can experience the most effective form of learning.
So, on which side of the coin do you find yourself?
