IELTS Speaking Cue Card

Topic: Punctuality

Describe a punctual person you know. Please say:

– Where you know him/her from?

– What does he/she do to keep track of time?

– Why do you think punctuality is important?

Sample Answer for IELTS Speaking Task 2 (IELTS Band 7):

Allow me to share some insights about one of my professors during my post-graduation at the university. Ms. Asha Tanwar taught Micro Economics in our class, and she left a lasting impression with her strict adherence to punctuality.

I got to know Ms. Asha Tanwar through my post-graduate program at the university. She was an exceptional professor, and her commitment to punctuality was noteworthy.

She relied on her wristwatch to keep track of time. I seldom saw her without it, and it seemed like an extension of her personality. Emphasizing the value of time, she taught us that time is an invaluable resource; while we cannot own it, we can make the most of it.

From my perspective, punctuality is of utmost importance in life. Starting our day on time fosters a positive frame of mind and instills a sense of responsibility. Respect for time opens doors to opportunities, and those who value punctuality often find success. In conclusion, I firmly believe that punctuality serves as the backbone of achievement.

Discussion for IELTS Speaking Task 3 based on the above question asked:

Question 1: Can you describe yourself as a punctual person?

Answer: Yes, I do consider myself a punctual person. While living in a city with unavoidable traffic issues, it can be challenging to always be on time. Nevertheless, I firmly believe in adhering to the principles of life, and I make an effort to set my schedules with punctuality in mind.

Question 2: How do you feel when people keep you waiting?

Answer: Being kept waiting is not a pleasant experience. However, I believe in understanding the reasons behind certain situations. Consistent lateness may indicate poor time management skills, particularly in professional settings. While I may feel somewhat bothered, I tend to be more lenient in personal appointments.

Question 3: Do you feel bad if you are late?

Answer: Absolutely, I feel terrible if I am late. I am aware that it can inconvenience others, and I prioritize punctuality as a sign of respect. If I happen to be late due to any reason, I sincerely apologize and make an effort to make up for the delay.
