Recent Exam Question in IELTS Speaking Part 2 (Person You Met Recently)

Describe a person who you met recently and would like to know more about him.

Describe a person who you met recently and would like to know more about him;

  • Who this person is
  • When and where you met him
  • What you would like to know more about him

Explain the reason why it is important for you to know that person.

Let’s analyze and rephrase the sample answer for the IELTS speaking cue card:

I’d like to share my experience of meeting an intriguing person at the nearby garden yesterday evening while I was taking my routine evening walk with my young son. It was a delightful encounter with an elderly gentleman who was accompanied by his grandson. The conversation began when our kids started playing together, and we soon found ourselves engrossed in a lively discussion about various topics, including the changes in recent times and our visions for the future.

During our chat, we also exchanged captivating stories from our personal and professional lives. I was genuinely fascinated by his experiences and perspectives. Now, I find myself eager to know more about him, his family, and, most importantly, his past work life, as I believe it holds valuable knowledge and wisdom that I can learn from.

Given that I don’t have any elder family members in my small household, I cherish the idea of continuing our conversations and developing a friendly relationship with him. I believe our interactions can be mutually beneficial, and I look forward to building a meaningful connection with this wise individual.

Useful Vocabulary:

During our engaging conversation, we discussed philosophical ideas, shared anecdotes from our personal and professional journeys, and contemplated the changes that the future holds. I’m especially interested in learning about his past work experiences and gaining valuable insights and wisdom from him. As my immediate family is small, I cherish the opportunity to connect with someone older and wiser. I hope our friendship will flourish as we continue to share our thoughts and experiences in the future.
