Some people believe that children in schools should learn how advertisements motivate us to buy things. Do you agree or disagree? Give your opinion.

Sample Answer:

The topic of whether children in schools should learn about how advertisements influence our purchasing decisions is a matter of debate. While some argue that it should be included in the curriculum, I hold the view that this aspect is better addressed by parents rather than schools.

Undeniably, advertisements wield significant power over individuals, especially children, shaping their preferences and consumption habits. By educating students about the techniques and strategies used by advertisers to appeal to their emotions and desires, we can enhance their critical thinking and decision-making skills. Understanding how advertisements can manipulate emotions and create a perceived need for certain products can empower young minds to make informed choices rather than succumbing to impulsive purchases. For instance, teaching children about the use of celebrity endorsements may help them become more discerning consumers, aware of the marketing tactics at play.

On the other hand, incorporating advertisements as a formal subject in the already packed school curriculum may not be a practical approach. Students already have numerous mandatory subjects to cover, and adding another topic might overload them, leaving little room for creative learning and personal development. Moreover, this knowledge is best imparted in the home environment, where parents can engage with their children on a more personal level. Parents can offer real-life examples and experiences, tailored to their child’s interests, which can resonate more effectively and create a lasting impact.

In conclusion, while it is essential for children to be aware of the persuasive nature of advertisements, I believe that schools should prioritize other foundational subjects in their curriculum. Parents, being closer to their children and their day-to-day experiences, can play a crucial role in guiding them to navigate the world of advertisements responsibly. By doing so, we can equip our children with the necessary skills to make informed choices and resist the lure of manipulative marketing tactics.
