IELTS Writing Task 2 Question: (Fewer Responsibilities to Children)

In the present era, children are found to have fewer responsibilities than it used to be in the past time. Some people consider it as positive development, however, some other people believe it to be a negative trend.

Discuss both the views and give your own opinion.

In the modern era, children are observed to have fewer responsibilities compared to the past. While some people view this as a positive development, others consider it a negative trend. This essay will discuss both perspectives and present my own opinion on the matter.

Some parents perceive the reduction in children’s responsibilities as beneficial. They believe that it allows youngsters to enjoy their lives more and experience less stress. Young individuals are encouraged to embrace a carefree attitude, as they associate numerous responsibilities with tension and burdens. Moreover, having fewer duties at a young age enables them to focus on personal goals, such as career advancement and financial stability. For instance, they can work extra hours to improve their salary without being burdened by resolving family disputes or matters.

On the other hand, there is a group of parents who view the decline in responsibilities as concerning. They argue that it may lead to a lack of responsibility and a self-centered approach in children. They fear that reducing obligations towards family and home might result in children becoming selfish and pampered. Consequently, the loving and caring relationships within families could be compromised, and young children may become insensitive towards their aging parents. This can be witnessed in situations where young kids send their elderly parents to old age homes once they get married.

In conclusion, opinions regarding the decrease in children’s responsibilities vary among individuals. However, I personally believe that the trend of assigning lesser responsibilities to children can have positive outcomes. It enables them to become more independent, self-sufficient, and focused on personal growth, which can ultimately benefit both the individuals and the society as a whole.
