A student who took the IELTS Speaking exam in February shared the Part 1 questions asked by the examiner. You can practice answering these questions on your own, and then compare your answers with the sample responses below to understand what is needed to score at least Band 7 in the IELTS speaking test.
Examiner: What is your name?
Student: My name is Rohit Verma.
Examiner: Are you studying or working?
Student: I am currently studying in the final year of my graduation program. I’m pursuing a 3-year degree in Bachelor of Arts at the prestigious Delhi University.
Examiner: Which is your favorite subject?
Student: I particularly enjoy economics among all the subjects. It deals with studying GDP, consumerism, finance, wealth, banking, and more. Economics focuses on how people use resources in real-life situations. Because of its practicality and relevance to my life, I find this subject fascinating.
Examiner: Why do you like this subject?
Student: As I mentioned earlier, economics is closely related to real-life financial situations. The principles and concepts taught in this subject are valuable for solving practical financial problems. I believe that learning economics will be highly beneficial for me in handling financial matters in the future.
Examiner: Why did you choose to study in your chosen discipline?
Student: I opted for Bachelor of Arts because I have a keen interest in subjects like history, geography, and economics. Acquiring knowledge in these subjects will help me prepare for the civil services exam, which is my ultimate career goal. Additionally, I find subjective courses more enjoyable, even in my free time. When I study these subjects, it never feels like a burden; instead, I take pleasure in learning more and more about them.
